In ancient Japanese culture, whales have been described as demons because of their gigantic sizes. The puppet has two sides, showing contrasting point-of-views. The black whale visualises the imagery of whales as beasts according to Japanese beliefs. The white whale portrays the whale as ‘an animal’ who suffer from cultures and beliefs.
